Gregory Abels’ life work has been devoted to excellence in the theatre and communicating the Dharma.

Fifty-three years ago Mr. Abels began his theatre studies, leading to a fulsome and adventurous career as an actor in New York, followed by many years as a regionally — and internationally — recognized stage director and master teacher of acting. Intense training in his other discipline, Zen, began later, and in 2006 he was empowered as a Sensei (Zen Teacher) in the White Plum Lineage of Taizan Maezumi. He is now Co-Resident Teacher of Still Mind Zendo in Manhattan. His practice of the craft of poetry recently led to a published collection of his poems, Never Something Else: Poems from the Eye of Zen.

Mr. Abels currently lives in New York City and the Hudson Valley with his wife, Janet Abels, and divides his time between theatre, poetry, and Zen teaching and practice.
